Mr Tony Quick, Chair
Tony is the director of the Enterprise Connect Defence Industry Innovation Centre which offers a range of hands-on services to small and medium enterprises in the Defence Industry sector. Tony has spent most of his career in general management, international business development and program management within the aerospace and defence industries in the UK before establishing GKN Aerospace Engineering Services in Australia. Tony was Director and General Manager of GKN Aerospace Engineering Services from 2001 to 2008, a company heavily involved in the Joint Strike Fighter Project. Tony chaired the Australian government's Joint Steering Committee for the implementation of the Action Agenda for Aerospace; was a member of the JSF Industry Advisory Council; he is a director of the Defence Materials Technology Centre and a member of the Future Manufacturing Industry Innovation Council.
Ms Carolynne Bourne AM
Carolynne joined Nylex in 1966 as a industrial chemist (colour). She subsequently took up a position at Monash University 1967 as a research and clinical medical laboratory scientist, a position she also held at the Alfred Hospital five years before returning to Monash University in 1985 to take up the position of Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist (genetic engineering).
In addition to her career in medical laboratory science, Carolynne has also established her own businesses in multidisciplinary design, retail/wholesale antique furniture firm, as an educator with higher education at national and local levels and business consultancy services.
Over twenty years ago Carolynne pinpointed four economic forces which are essential to Australia’s future – namely, design, skill deficiencies, Master Artisan level credential for the trades and communication and collaboration along the Value Chain. In 990, International Specialised Skills Institute Inc. (ISS Institute) was founded to meet these gaps with Carolynne the founding CEO.
Academic qualifications, published papers and current and past affiliations such as Patron, Architectural Glass Design Association, National and Victorian Chapters, Member of Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (Ceda) and Member of CEDA "CEO Roundtable", Member of the Design Strategy Reference Group (Policy), Victorian Government, Member of the Australian Academy of Design, Member Federal Government's Action Agenda: Furnishing Industry, Innovation and Design Committee underpin her commitment to design as a business tool to solve problems in an holistic approarch across industries and occupations.
Carolynne was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2006.
Mr David Burton
Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Compumedics Ltd.
Compumedics offers innovative computer-based diagnostic technologies in the areas of sleep, neurology and cardiology. With a background in engineering, and the design and project management of Compumedics’ first laboratory and portable sleep systems, David has authored fifteen patents or patent applications that form part of Compumedics’ key intellectual property. A leading figure in Victoria’s science and engineering innovation industries, David was a member of the Victorian government’s Council for Knowledge, Innovation, Science and Engineering (KISE).

Mr Paul Charlwood
President of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), Victorian Chapter.
Paul Charlwood is principal of Charlwood Design Pty Ltd, established in 1993. Charlwood Design is a leading industrial design and product development consultancy in Melbourne. It is a commercially-focused design consultancy developing innovative, simple and elegant products for consumer, medical and capital markets.
Paul is a multiple winner of ‘Premier’s Award’ for Industrial Design, “Gold” at NeoCon Chicago and inductee of the ‘Manufacturing Hall of Fame’.
Charlwood Design was selected to design the “Queen’s Baton”, the “Unity Count Down” piece and Medal podiums for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. In 2006 Paul founded the Melbourne Design Guides” on the Melbourne design scene and Sydney Design Guide in 2007.
He has been key in the establishment of the “Design for Sustainability” working group and grants scheme for product design. He is currently the Co Victorian President of the Design Institute of Australia and has been an active contributor to policy and strategy during this time for industry and Government. In 2008 he co-authored the Design Institute of Australia’s education policy.
Mr Gerry Mussett
Managing Director of Sprocket Design.
Sprocket Design is a leading Australian industrial design company specialising in interactive kiosk design and manufacture. Gerry has been a key player in Australian product design for over 20 years, having won numerous design awards. Sprocket has been responsible for the design development of projects for major corporations in Australia and internationally including interactive kiosks for leading retailers and technology companies such as McDonalds, Coles Myer, L’Oreal and NCR. The company and its products have been featured in publications and exhibitions in Australia and internationally including New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Dr. Johnny Pak
Chief Executive Officer of i-Glass Projects Pty Ltd.
i-Glass is a unique technology that has the ability to switch from opaque to transparent in just 20 milliseconds. In 2003, i-Glass developed a partnership with the University of Ballarat culminating in the construction of a manufacturing facility at the Mt Helen Campus. i-Glass is the main feature of The Edge, a cantilevered glass cube on the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower in Melbourne. The glass is opaque as people enter the cube and it suddenly switches clear to the sound of smashing glass to reveal the Melbourne cityscape 285 metres below. iGlass is also creating trends in interior design, façade outlooks and provides functional solutions to future vehicle designs.

Professor Chris Ryan
Professor and Co-Director of the Australian Centre for Science Innovation and Society at the University of Melbourne and Director of the Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab.
Chris has been at the forefront of eco-design in both Australia and Europe for more than a decade. He has collaborated on many eco-design research groups in Europe, including the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands and the UK Design Council. He was consultant to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) writing the Global Report on Sustainable Consumption for the Johannesburg World Summit in 2002.
Today Chris serves as Visiting Professor in Eco-innovation and Ecodesign at Lund University and the Cartesuis Institute in the Netherlands. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Design Architecture and Building at the University of Technology Sydney and at RMIT.
Chris is joint editor of D4S, a forthcoming UNEP Global Guide to Ecodesign, co-author with Helen Lewis of Imaging Sustainability, published by RMIT Press in January 2007 and a member of the editorial boards of the MIT/Yale Journal of Industrial Ecology and the International Journal of Innovation and Sustainable Development.
Peter Yates
Executive Director of the Industry Capability Network (Vic) Ltd.
ICN is an independent, not-for-profit service to the manufacturing engineering and services sector funded by the Victorian Government. ICN supports Victorian and Australian industry by sourcing competitive local products and services that can replace imports. Peter joined ICN in 1995, working on major projects such as Telstra Dome and Melbourne Train and Tram, before being promoted to CEO in 2005. Prior to joining ICN, he was Procurement Manager for the State Electricity Commission’s Latrobe Valley operation.
Mr Simon Goodrich
President of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA).
Simon Goodrich is co-founder and Managing Director of Portable Content, a Collingwood-based digital studio that developed the Portable Film Festival. He has over a decade of experience in the community media industry in Australia, and is widely known for his work as President and Manager of the Student Youth Network FM (SYN FM) in Melbourne. Simon led SYN FM's successful application for a full-time community broadcasting licence in 2001 and established the SYN FM school training program. He has served as a board member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, the industry's national peak body, and conducted a number of successful national consultations to the Federal Government, attaining increased support for broadcast training initiatives and the promotion of Australian music. Prior to Portable, Simon held the position of Business Development Manager of Diversitat, a community organisation in Geelong.
He is currently President of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association, representing over 700 companies in the online media, advertising and interactive space. He is a member of the exclusive International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and a judge for the Webby Awards, the Oscars for online. In 2008 he was recognised as one of Australia's leading entrepreneurs under the age of 30 by Anthill Magazine.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne.
Professor Arthur de Bono
Head, Department of Design and Head, Department of Multimedia & Digital Arts, Monash University.
Arthur graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design. His research has been in the discipline of industrial design and the majority of activities have been in the form of innovations in designs for major national research corporations and commercial organisations. As Head of Department, he has implemented a range of degrees that provide students with professional educational outcomes and a sound basis for research and higher-degree studies. He has served as President of the Victorian Chapter of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) and co-chaired the Design Research Society's International Research Conference, FUTUREGROUND and is a DIA Fellow.
His major applied research projects over the last 10 years include:Electoral Furniture Systems - an investigation of alternative concepts to durable electoral furniture systems, Design and development of a mass produced semi-automated residential window system - an investigation and discovery of innovative technologies in residential aluminium window design in a semi-automated manufacturing environment, and Case-ready meat packaging systems - an investigation and discovery of innovative case-ready retail meat packaging concepts.
Professor Geoffrey London
Geoffrey London is the Victorian Government Architect. He is also the Professor of Architecture at The University of Western Australia and has held the position of Professorial Fellow at The University of Melbourne. He was, for a period of nearly five years, the inaugural Government Architect in Western Australia. He is a past Dean and Head of School at UWA, past Chair of the Committee of Heads of Architecture Schools of Australasia, a past President of the Western Australian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects, and a Life Fellow of the Institute. He is currently a member of the Australian Research Council’s College of Experts and has acted as a consultant on numerous architectural and urban design projects. He has served on and acted as Chair of many architectural design award juries and a large number of competition juries.
Mr Stephen Langdon

Stephen has worked in all facets of the design discipline including; academia, lecturing, design promotion, manufacturing R&D and product development consultancies.
Stephen is currently Director, Industry Liaison at Swinburne University, Faculty of Design and is responsible for student industry placements, external engagement with industry, government and professional organisations. In 2009 Stephen was executive officer for Cumulus 38° South, the first Cumulus international design education conference in the southern hemisphere. This conference presented over 70 design research papers. Stephen also managed a series of design thinking forums delivered by international speakers. He co-ordinated the Product Design Engineering program for over 9 years and in 2001 received the Vice Chancellors Excellence in Teaching Award.
Stephen’s previous position includes Manager, Tertiary Network with Lab.3000, hosted by RMIT University. This agency funded by the Victorian Government provided showcase events, international speakers, exhibitions and design competitions for the student and academic design networks across Victoria.
As a consultant product designer Stephen has managed teams to design and develop numerous local and international consumer products in organisations such as Black & Decker, Email Electronics, NEC, ERG, Wilco Electrical and Vulcan Industries.
Stephen holds an MBA from Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship at Swinburne University of Technology.
Mr Grant Davidson

Grant graduated from Swinburne International School of Design in 1989 (ish) and followed his love for ideas, beginning his career in advertising as an Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather.
After a few years in advertising and an intense learning curve in strategic and creative thinking, Grant yearned to get back to the detail and craftsmanship of design, forming his own business with a vision of combining the best of all worlds – strategy, creative thinking and craftsmanship.
Over the past 20 years Grant has built a multi-award winning branding business, attracting some of the best talent from around the country and across the globe. Not to mention an impressive client list including many market leaders and 20 of the worlds top 100 brands.
Grant is a self confessed knowledge junkie with a keen interest in consumer behaviour, having completed studies in business and brand strategy, psychology, lateral thinking, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, behaviour profiling and change management.
Grant also enjoys sharing what he’s learnt, having lectured at RMIT, Swinburne, Victoria University and the Australian Federation of Advertising as well as numerous guest speaker engagements.
Grant loves the industry and has a strong desire to see it develop and prosper – a desire that drove him to become Vice President of the Melbourne Advertising and Design Club in 2003 and more recently Co-Vice President of the Australian Graphic Design Association (Victorian Chapter).
