Mr Tony Quick, Chair
Director and General Manager of GKN Aerospace Engineering Services.
Tony’s company is an integrated engineering organisation providing a comprehensive range of aerospace engineering design and manufacturing services to the aerospace, defence and marine industries. Tony has spent most of his career in international business development and program management within the aerospace and defence industries in the UK before establishing his own company in Australia in 2001. Tony is at the forefront of Australia’s aerospace industry development and innovation programs serving as founding co-chair of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Airframe Vehicle and Propulsion Systems Industry Capability Team; a member of the JSF Industry Advisory Committee; chair of the Australian government’s Joint Steering Committee for the implementation of the Action Agenda for Aerospace; a director of the CRC for Advanced Composites and a member of the RMIT Sir Lawrence Wackett Centre Advisory Board.
Professor Lyndon Anderson
Acting Dean to the Faculty of Design at Swinburne University of Technology.
Lyndon graduated from Kingston University in 1987 with an Honours degree before studying at Central St Martins College of Art and Design where he gained a Master of Arts degree. He successfully completed his doctorate in 2001. Lyndon worked as a senior designer and design manager for multidisciplinary design consultancies in Europe before forming an industrial design consultancy specialising in the development of corporate furniture, lighting and consumer products. His work has been exhibited in Milan, London, New York, Amsterdam, Cologne, Dublin, Sydney and Melbourne. Lyndon is currently conducting and managing research within the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) for Wood Innovation. He is a member of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA).
Professor Richard Blythe
Professor in Architecture and Head of School, Architecture and Design. RMIT University.
Richard is a founding director of the architecture practice Terroir. The work of Terroir has been recognised through exhibition and publication nationally and internationally and their first book Terroir: Cosmopolitan Ground was published in August 2007 by DAB Documents, University of Technology, Sydney. Richard is Chair of the National Education Committee of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. His academic passion is in exploring research in the medium of design. Prior to taking up his position at RMIT Richard lectured at the University of Tasmania for 14 years where he served as Deputy Head of the School of Architecture until mid 2007. He gained a B.EnvDes and B.Arch from the Tasmanian State Institute of Technology and a M.Arch (Research) specializing in Australian architectural history from the University of Melbourne.
Ms Carolynne Bourne AM
Carolynne joined Nylex in 1966 as a industrial chemist (colour). She subsequently took up a position at Monash University 1967 as a research and clinical medical laboratory scientist, a position she also held at the Alfred Hospital five years before returning to Monash University in 1985 to take up the position of Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist (genetic engineering).
In addition to her career in medical laboratory science, Carolynne has also established her own businesses in multidisciplinary design, retail/wholesale antique furniture firm, as an educator with higher education at national and local levels and business consultancy services.
Over twenty years ago Carolynne pinpointed four economic forces which are essential to Australia’s future – namely, design, skill deficiencies, Master Artisan level credential for the trades and communication and collaboration along the Value Chain. In 990, International Specialised Skills Institute Inc. (ISS Institute) was founded to meet these gaps with Carolynne the founding CEO.

Mr David Burton
Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Compumedics Ltd.
Compumedics offers innovative computer-based diagnostic technologies in the areas of sleep, neurology and cardiology. With a background in engineering, and the design and project management of Compumedics’ first laboratory and portable sleep systems, David has authored fifteen patents or patent applications that form part of Compumedics’ key intellectual property. A leading figure in Victoria’s science and engineering innovation industries, David was a member of the Victorian government’s Council for Knowledge, Innovation, Science and Engineering (KISE).
Mr Steven Martinuzzo
President of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), Victorian Chapter.
Steve’s wide product development experience comes from a career spanning over 20 years. Throughout this time he has consulted to leading manufacturing clients in Australia, Asia, the UK and USA on a diverse range of commercially-focussed projects, including iconic products such as grab-handles for Yarra Trams to some of the world’s most accurate scientific instruments.
Steve is a co-founding director of CobaltNiche one of Australia’s leading and largest product development groups. His group has been recognised with numerous Australian and international design awards, most recently a 2008 Premier’s Design Award. Steve has also lectured in design at both RMIT and Monash University, is chair of Swinburne University’s Product Design Engineering course advisory committee and has acted as an expert witness in the field of packaging design. Steve is actively involved in the design community, as Victorian State President of the Design Institute of Australia - Australia's professional membership body for designers and design businesses - and acting as a judge within national design awards programs.
Mr Wayne Kayler-Thomson
Wayne Kayler-Thomson is Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI).
VECCI is Victoria's most influential employer representative body, servicing over 15,000 Victorian businesses a year. Wayne has served as Deputy CEO of Tourism Victoria and was an inaugural board member of the tourism authority. Wayne has over 20 years tourism industry experience, including as an owner/operator of a motel and group tour business and Executive Director of a regional economic development organisation. Prior to this, Wayne's early career was as a senior executive in the manufacturing sector.
Mr Gerry Mussett
Managing Director of Sprocket Design.
Sprocket Design is a leading Australian industrial design company specialising in interactive kiosk design and manufacture. Gerry has been a key player in Australian product design for over 20 years, having won numerous design awards. Sprocket has been responsible for the design development of projects for major corporations in Australia and internationally including interactive kiosks for leading retailers and technology companies such as McDonalds, Coles Myer, L’Oreal and NCR. The company and its products have been featured in publications and exhibitions in Australia and internationally including New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Dr. Johnny Pak
Chief Executive Officer of i-Glass Projects Pty Ltd.
i-Glass is a unique technology that has the ability to switch from opaque to transparent in just 20 milliseconds. In 2003, i-Glass developed a partnership with the University of Ballarat culminating in the construction of a manufacturing facility at the Mt Helen Campus. i-Glass is the main feature of The Edge, a cantilevered glass cube on the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower in Melbourne. The glass is opaque as people enter the cube and it suddenly switches clear to the sound of smashing glass to reveal the Melbourne cityscape 285 metres below. iGlass is also creating trends in interior design, façade outlooks and provides functional solutions to future vehicle designs.
Mr Tim Piper
Victorian Director of the Australian Industry Group (AiGroup).
The AiGroup represents nearly 10,000 manufacturing, IT, telecommunications, construction and utility companies across the country, with almost 4,000 members in Victoria. Prior to joining AiGroup, Tim was Executive Director of the Australian Retailers Association - Victoria for five years. He has practised as a barrister and solicitor in Australia and the UK and worked as a journalist in television, radio and newspapers. He also has completed an MBA. Tim chairs the Industry Capability Network (ICN) and the Manufacturing Skills and Training Taskforce. He is also director of a number of companies including the Microsurgery Foundation and the Mt Hotham Resort Management Board, and sits on government advisory committees including the Victorian WorkCover Authority Advisory Committee.
Professor Chris Ryan
Professor and Co-Director of the Australian Centre for Science Innovation and Society at the University of Melbourne and Director of the Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab.
Chris has been at the forefront of eco-design in both Australia and Europe for more than a decade. He has collaborated on many eco-design research groups in Europe, including the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands and the UK Design Council. He was consultant to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) writing the Global Report on Sustainable Consumption for the Johannesburg World Summit in 2002.
Today Chris serves as Visiting Professor in Eco-innovation and Ecodesign at Lund University and the Cartesuis Institute in the Netherlands. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Design Architecture and Building at the University of Technology Sydney and at RMIT.
Chris is joint editor of D4S, a forthcoming UNEP Global Guide to Ecodesign, co-author with Helen Lewis of Imaging Sustainability, published by RMIT Press in January 2007 and a member of the editorial boards of the MIT/Yale Journal of Industrial Ecology and the International Journal of Innovation and Sustainable Development.
Ms Caitlin Ziegler
Victorian Co-President of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).
Caitlin Ziegler established Ziegler Design in 2005; a primarily print-based graphic design and illustration studio. Her work has been published by Penguin and Oxford University Press and seen in the Australian Poster Annual. Caitlin also teaches Graphic Arts at Swinburne and is an AGIdeas Alumni member. She is the current Co-president of the Australian Graphic
Design Association (AGDA) in Victoria and sits on their national council. AGDA is the national association for professional graphic designers, founded in 1988 to facilitate the advancement of the graphic design profession in Australia.
Peter Yates
Executive Director of the Industry Capability Network (Vic) Ltd.
ICN is an independent, not-for-profit service to the manufacturing engineering and services sector funded by the Victorian Government. ICN supports Victorian and Australian industry by sourcing competitive local products and services that can replace imports. Peter joined ICN in 1995, working on major projects such as Telstra Dome and Melbourne Train and Tram, before being promoted to CEO in 2005. Prior to joining ICN, he was Procurement Manager for the State Electricity Commission’s Latrobe Valley operation.
Mr Simon Goodrich
President of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA).
Simon Goodrich is co-founder and Managing Director of Portable Content, a Collingwood-based digital studio that developed the Portable Film Festival. He has over a decade of experience in the community media industry in Australia, and is widely known for his work as President and Manager of the Student Youth Network FM (SYN FM) in Melbourne. Simon led SYN FM's successful application for a full-time community broadcasting licence in 2001 and established the SYN FM school training program. He has served as a board member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, the industry's national peak body, and conducted a number of successful national consultations to the Federal Government, attaining increased support for broadcast training initiatives and the promotion of Australian music. Prior to Portable, Simon held the position of Business Development Manager of Diversitat, a community organisation in Geelong.
He is currently President of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association, representing over 700 companies in the online media, advertising and interactive space. He is a member of the exclusive International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and a judge for the Webby Awards, the Oscars for online. In 2008 he was recognised as one of Australia's leading entrepreneurs under the age of 30 by Anthill Magazine.

Professor Arthur de Bono
Head, Department of Design and Head, Department of Multimedia & Digital Arts, Monash University.
Arthur graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design. His research has been in the discipline of industrial design and the majority of activities have been in the form of innovations in designs for major national research corporations and commercial organisations. As Head of Department, he has implemented a range of degrees that provide students with professional educational outcomes and a sound basis for research and higher-degree studies. He has served as President of the Victorian Chapter of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) and co-chaired the Design Research Society's International Research Conference, FUTUREGROUND and is a DIA Fellow.
His major applied research projects over the last 10 years include: Electoral Furniture Systems - an investigation of alternative concepts to durable electoral furniture systems, Design and development of a mass produced semi-automated residential window system - an investigation and discovery of innovative technologies in residential aluminium window design in a semi-automated manufacturing environment, and Case-ready meat packaging systems - an investigation and discovery of innovative case-ready retail meat packaging concepts.
