Strategy

Recognising design is a fundamental component of innovative, competitive industries and vital to building liveable, sustainable and cohesive communities, the Victorian Government’s Minister for Innovation, Gavin Jennings, MLC, launched the Design Victoria Strategy in November 2007.

The Victorian government is investing A$15 million in the strategy over the next four years to:

  • Drive design excellence
  • Create a more globally competitive design sector
  • Encourage the design-led growth of Victorian industries

RMIT University is charged with delivering three of the strategy’s four programs:

Design Ready targets small to medium businesses and manufacturers in competitive Victorian industries.

Business Ready targets Victorian designers and design firms.

Design Knowledge harnesses and disseminates knowledge on how design is used by private and public enterprises to deliver economic, environmental, social and other benefits.

State of Design is targeting the general public, potential purchasers of Victorian design, within Australia and internationally, through a series of events.
