The business of eco-design
Why is Design Victoria focusing on eco-design?
Eco-design – or known internationally as ‘design for the environment’ or ‘design for sustainability’, is crucial in moving Victoria towards a more sustainable future.
Design Victoria is partnering with Centre for Design at RMIT University – leaders in eco-design research and Industry professionals to deliver the Design Ready eco-design seminar and workshop series for Victorian small to medium enterprises to impart strategies for the effective integration of environmental considerations into the creation of sustainable products and services.
Seminar overview
Sustainability is the key driving force changing the global landscape of design and manufacturing. Those companies that fail to address sustainability through new product development and improved manufacturing processes run the risk of alienating their business from industry and consumers.
Opportunities for more eco-friendly products and services will dominate global markets. Is your business planning for this change? How are product developers and designers responding?
This seminar will address the important fundamental issues of what sustainable design encompasses and what are the driving forces behind this major shift in the marketplace? Presenters will discuss what future lies ahead and how designers and developers are preparing industry now for an eco-friendly market place.
The follow-up full day workshop will provide attendees with relevant tools enabling businesses to embrace sustainable practices in product development. Presenters will cover topics including:
- From a design and manufacturing perspective - What is sustainability and how does it affect my business?
- Why engage with sustainability? What are the business advantages?
- Your questions answered in relation to integrating sustainability into your business
- Practical workshop in developing the right design brief
- Who in industry is implementing sustainability? What are the results?
