Shaping the Low Carbon Economy – New Agencies, New Business
Design Victoria and the Alfred Deakin Eco-Innovation Lecture Series are pleased to present international guest speaker Peter Madden, Chief Executive,Forum for the Future, for this special presentation.
Intimate Lecture
Following Peter Madden’s Deakins Lecture that discussed the scale and urgency of the environmental challenges facing us, this workshop will explore the critical role of creativity and innovation in finding answers and fashioning a low carbon future.
Peter will share stories about what some of the leading global companies that he is working with are doing – names such as Cadbury, Unilever and Pepsico and Akzo Nobel - and ask how business can be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem.
Peter will then ask where government and consumers are, and what part they need to play. He will draw on the work of Forum for the Future, in advising businesses and designers, in stimulating innovation and in convening cross-sectoral solutions.
A sustainable future won’t happen by itself. To achieve it, we need to set out clear, compelling visions of what it can look like, and draw a route map for getting there. And we need to reframe our economy so that it can drive that transition. Over the last few years, Forum for the Future has set the pace for futures thinking on sustainability. In doing so, it’s become clear that we lack positive and compelling visions of what a low-carbon future would look like.
Peter will examine how we frame our green visions of the future, stress the importance of positive, collective stories, and argue that we do have the power to shape what is to come.
