Andrew Baron
Founder and producer, Rocketboom
Andrew Baron, now 35, spent his 20s in Austin, Texas playing in bands, running an art gallery and supporting himself with various tech jobs.
In 2001 Baron moved to New York to study a Masters in Fine Arts, incorporating video and computing, at Parsons School of Design. It was during his time as a presidential campaign worker that he noticed broadband was finally going to enable the delivery of political and other content through online video.
Baron, who hasn’t owned a TV in a decade, describes his experience of the online video explosion during that campaign as a kind of epiphany. He came up with the idea for a mock newscast and started Rocketboom in September 2004.
