Simon McPherson
Director, SJB Urban
Simon McPherson is a registered Architect and practicing Urban Designer. Educated at the University of Melbourne, he gained a Masters degree at the world-renowned Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. Simon has worked on a range of urban-scale projects in architectural practices in Australia and the UK, including Sports City, Manchester, a regeneration project for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow International Airport, ID Apartments Port Melbourne, Transit Cities projects and many others, spanning the full range of project types and sizes.
He has worked in Urban Design at the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), where his innovative and award-winning work included strategic planning, policy development, structure planning and design, transport integration, charette workshops, community and stakeholder engagement, design advice, and urban development research and models, towards implementation of the metropolitan strategy Melbourne 2030.
Prior to his government employment, Simon worked in private architectural practice in Melbourne and Glasgow, UK, and contributed to a range of large scale development and master planning projects. His recent UK studies have provided high-level, specialised Urban Design training, and exposure to the broad range of historic and contemporary urban conditions of Europe.
Simon’s passion for sustainable outcomes, design quality and social equity drives his work as Director of SJB Urban, to which he brings his broad range of experience, complemented by recent studies in experimental urban design, to provide a unique combination of core urban design skills and project capability, along with innovation and cutting edge ideas.
