Simulated Training Systems

Design taps into the simulation market

Simulated Training Systems brochure

In 2008, Simulated Trainings Systems and Creative on Tap were brought together as part of Design Victoria's Business Immersions program. 12 months on, the partnership has benefited both companies, illustrating again the significance of effective designer/client relationships in business.

Within a tight timeframe of eight-weeks and with a budget of $20,000 (approx.), Simulated Training Systems (STS) worked with Creative on Tap to produce a highly visible and easy-to-understand suite of marketing collateral for a then upcoming trade show, Safety in Action (in 2008).

Simulated Training Systems tradeshowsAt the trade show the collateral provided prospective clients with an easy introduction to STS’s complex new product. The material is now used in current marketing and sales contexts. One year later and both companies reported that the partnership through the Business Immersions program had provided them with tangible results and business development opportunities:

  • STS has experienced ongoing positive results from the kit produced during the program, leading to increased sales leads and a major contract.
  • The visual aids have assisted to speed up STS’s sales process, resulting in an increase in productivity.
  • STS gained a fresh perspective on how its customers related to the company and its product, which informed changes to its marketing and communications strategy.
  • STS has an increased understanding of design deliverables, with the added bonus of receiving business consultancy from Creative on Tap.
  • Creative on Tap has experienced increased interest in its services as a result of the program.
  • The design agency uses the case study generated from the Business Immersions program to help current and future clients understand its offerings.
  • Creative on Tap has developed a greater understanding of clients’ attitudes towards design budgets, particularly during the proposal stages of a project.

"The most significant lesson for us that emerged out of the Business Immersions program was the importance of having a designer that not only understood our company and what we do, but that understood our clients as well," STS said. "The objectivity [a designer] brings to a project, combined with their own industry specific expertise can be invaluable. The role of the designer as a business consultant has added real value to our business."
