Simulated Training Systems brochure

Simulated Training Systems is one of Australia's leading providers of interactive, simulation-based training modules (often dubbed ‘edutainment’). Their latest industry-leading 3D simulation for vocational training allows companies to recreate the specific conditions in their workplaces, vastly improving the training they can offer their staff.

Simulated Training Systems needed to promote the benefits of this complex new product in a clear and simple manner to potential clients in the workplace and safety training industry. The company had a stand at the ‘Safety in Action’ tradeshow (Melbourne, 29 April – 1 May 2008), but didn’t have a brand image or printed marketing collateral to accompany their presentation.

Simulated Training Systems printed collateralEnter Creative on Tap. This Melbourne-based design company had extensive experience in developing identities (via logo design and corporate ID), visibility (through packaging, signage and displays), marketing strategies and marketing materials (catalogues, brochures and advertising material). They introduced Simulated Training Systems to Design Victoria’s Business Immersion Program and a successful creative partnership was born.

It was clear that clients who used video and classroom training would need to make a leap in perception to understand Simulated Training Systems’ product offering. And prospective clients needed a marketing toolkit that required no further input from Simulated Training Systems sales representatives. The toolkit also had to make clear to clients that Simulated Training Systems created customised 3D immersive environments, not CAD (computer-aided design) software.

Despite a tight eight-week deadline, Simulated Training Systems went from having no effective promotional material to possessing a professionally designed brand image and a fully equipped communications toolkit. The company was surprised and excited to learn that quality design (expressed in static print-based media) could successfully communicate the benefits of a dynamic, interactive product.

Simulated Training Systems tradeshowsAt the tradeshow, Simulated Training Systems provided prospective clients with an easy to understand presentation and developed a number of new sales leads. In addition, its new marketing collateral assisted sales staff in future promotional activity. They experienced a boost in productivity because staff were now equipped with visual and printed aids to speed the sales process.

The Business Immersion was highly successful because the process put to best use Simulated Training Systems’ industry knowledge and Creative on Tap’s marketing and design skills. Both companies viewed Design Victoria’s facilitator as integral to the project’s development and were deeply satisfied that a professional result was achieved against the background of a high-pressure timeline.

Simulated Training Systems postersCreative on Tap said it was thrilled to see Simulated Training Systems’ positive reaction to the finished art and the overall project. The designer said that delivery was the most satisfying moment of the project, ‘seeing the actual exhibition stand come together in relation to its competitors in neighbouring stalls’. For Simulated Training Systems, their greatest satisfaction was ‘seeing prospective clients pick up our brochure and understand right away who we are and what we do’.
